SBB FreeSurf 1.3.3

Internet access is complimentary via the SBB FreeSurf app. SBB FreeSurf is accessible on all SBB long-distance trains (IC and IR) and leverages the excellent mobile phone coverage along Swiss rail routes. Passengers enjoy a faster and more reliable internet connection with greater bandwidth compared to conventional train Wi-Fi services. Customers with mobile phone contracts from digitec, Quickline, Salt (including Das Abo, GoMo, Lidl Connect), Sunrise, or Swisscom can browse the internet at no cost using the SBB FreeSurf app.

International passengers can also enjoy complimentary internet access by using a SIM card (or eSIM) from a mobile phone provider participating in SBB FreeSurf. Trains offering free internet connectivity are denoted by ‘FS’ (for FreeSurf) in the online timetable.

Upon boarding, customers can launch the SBB FreeSurf app for automatic recognition through a beacon. Upon successful registration, a confirmation SMS is sent to customers, enabling complimentary internet browsing via their mobile phone provider. A message is displayed when disembarking or terminating the connection to indicate that free internet access has been deactivated. Only the mobile number is required for registration.
